About this deal

I believe the strength of this book stems from the authors' background in physics … The key being that electronics is not their primary interest.

If you don't, you can probably still pick things up through osmosis, and you'd probably get the most out of it on your second pass through. I highly recommend it for any electrical engineering student or graduate for the transistor chapters alone. In contrast, The Art of Electronics contains tables, equations, diagrams, and other material practitioners use for reference. quite often you'd start getting into the interesting shit, and there would be an annoying reference to the "X" chapters, sold in another (expensive) accompanying book. Delivered in folksy Horowitz and Hill style, it is rich with the kind of nitty-gritty information that's invaluable to circuit designers and manufacturers, much of which is absent (or difficult to find) elsewhere.e. design of op-amps) as a core class, but most EEs that I went to school didn’t like the follow on courses and didn’t take the more advanced courses. Also shame, as though I was righter than Stack Exchange, I was not quite as right as Horowitz and Hill!

Conductors, cables, and connectors are examined to determine the non-ideal effects they can exhibit. Finally, the chapter concludes with a discussion of different types of diodes, including some esoteric types, and their practical failings.

The 2001 pressing of the second edition ( ISBN 0521370957) lists "Reprinted 1990 (twice), 1991, 1993, 1994 (twice), 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 (twice), 1999, 2001". Recent interests include high-voltage RF (to 15 kV), high-current pulsed electronics (to 1200 A), low-noise amplifiers (to sub-n V and pA), and MOSFET pulse generators. Literally the worst introduction to transistors I have ever seen, for the past few hours I have been trying to find something worst and it seems impossible.
