Plaid Hat Games Mice and Mystics Board Game, Red
About this deal
A few people in my group think that it should be in our top 10 cooperative games for families, but it just missed the cut. Mice and Mystics is a boldly innovative game that thrusts players into an ever-changing, interactive environment, and features a rich storyline that the players help create as they play the game. However, all of the above can be performed by simple – which is a plus – yet repetitive – which is a minus – fighting mechanic. And since I was having such a hard time rolling cheese, I didn’t want to have to waste mine on powering a special when I really wanted to level. I enjoyed the different mice (each of which fills a different role in the party) and like that you can customize them with ability cards.
Play as nimble Prince Collin and fence your way past your foes, or try Nez Bellows, the burly smith. And if you have kids ages 7+, I think this would make a great family game experience and is absolutely worth checking out.I think it's complicated enough that most kids would need an adult to play it WITH them at the younger age (7) stated on the box. If you want a deeper combat and character customization experience than this also isn’t the game for you. It’s always great when family games are easy to learn and teach, and that is definitely the case with Mice and Mystics. In fact, there are story segments both before and after each adventure, along with an opening prologue and final epilogue for the quest book itself. Mice and Mystics tries to be inventive in its approach to standard dungeon crawling fare and, in terms of presentation, it's a charming success.
In my book, any board game that encourages people to play more board game, is doing something right. Dodge - 1 - You may use this ability immediately after any figure, including this one, ends its move. More importantly, players need each other to defeat the waves of cockroaches, centipedes and rat warriors that will cross their path. Everything from the double sided boards to the miniatures are stunning to look at, and it’s clear that a lot of time has been put into making the game the best it could be.Often quoted as being “simple yet engrossing”, its theme and story elements were enough to sell it to me.
