About this deal

While the book touches on many serious themes, it remains entertaining, making this a great read for those who enjoy cute contemporaries with important social themes. Dani pushing away her friends after the party incident that haunts her is isolating, and makes her trauma feel even worse. I also loved how we learned so much about Prince’s and Danielle’s backstory, it gave them so much more depth which is another reason I was so attached to this story.

I could be a little biased but the passions for writing, music, love, and psychology had me sold from the very beginning. And in the midst of it all is one funny girl, finding her way and forging the path for who she wants to be. Prince is passionate about music and romance and gives relationship advice on his Love Radio show- however, his own love life is looking a bit sad. When I first read the summary of this book, I immediately added it to my TBR list because of the comps.

Danielle having to work through her trauma and find healthy coping mechanisms was such a touching message. The banter between Dani and Prince, as they got more comfortable with one another, had me laughing out loud and, at times, blushing a little. Tenderly exploring trauma, passion, being a young carer, planning for your future and the power of both music and words, Love Radio is an adorable and heartfelt coming-of-age romance celebrating Black love. This book started a tad bit slow and I was afraid I wouldn’t enjoy, but to my surprise this was a really good story and I forgot I was reading a YA Romance.

She undergoes a lot of healing throughout the book, and I loved the way both Prince and Dani make each other stronger and grow together. Love Radio has all the fun rom-com moments, from the totally extra dates to meeting the parents to awkward bathroom moments met with grace and humility. I loved how Danielle decided to take him out on a date, which was so funny because we see her being completely disgusted with the idea of love in the beginning of the story. We definitely love our mental health representation here, and I especially appreciated both Danielle and Prince’s experiences with their school counselor. this book follows prince, aka dj lovejones, a boy who gives relationship advice on his own radio show and is wishing for a love of his own, and dani, a girl who’s trying to bury something that happened in her past while struggling with her college essay. From there, we follow the two as they get to know one another and Prince vows to win Dani's heart over just three dates. Prince balances school and his radio segment with being a caretaker for his mother who has MS, and I loved the way he maintains a positive attitude and never complains about this.

He’s been crushing on Dani Ford since middle school, and when they meet again, they don’t leave a good impression. Meanwhile, Dani isn't looking for a relationship- she is determined to focus on her plan to move to NYC and become a famous author- while avoiding thinking about what happened at that party a few months ago. I mean at what point do you accept that some people know the difference between rift and wrong and choose wrong out of boredom or because they believe they’re an exception to responsibility? and Prince was literally so wholesome and sweet, i loved him 🥹💗 Their relationship was also really cute and i enjoyed seeing the progression of it. From sexual harassment, toxic friendship, and managing health complications, this novel addresses many issues teens are facing today in a relatable way that isn’t preachy. Will the self-proclaimed teen love doctor be able to get the girl, or is all his love talk just hot air? Coupled with the friendship and relationship plots, these components provide plenty of depth and heart while there is still lots of humor, romance, and coming of age aspects that are relatable. The Reader gets a front row seat not just to the exquisitely-adorable dates, but also to what's going on behind the scenes in both Prince and Dani's home lives. There’s growth and trust and stumbling and resets scattered all throughout the development of these two characters (both as individuals and as partners for one another). Sprinkle it with a dialog that occasionally comes across stilted and I finished it being a bit meh about it.

came up with this plan to make Danielle fall in love with him after 3 dates that she began noticing him as well. The unique passions of each character and their individual growth throughout the novel is wonderful to witness. So, when his Uncle offers him a segment on his popular hip-hop show, Love Radio, Prince graciously accepts. They talk about the influences Motown has had on today’s music, as well as how Black beauty practices have been appropriated.
