About this deal
Zoey lost her father and mother in a tragic accident when she was 6 and then went to foster care, which wasn't a good experience for her. Homeless, broke, and unwilling to accept handouts, twenty year old Zoey knows better than to trust Ryan, the strange man offering her help, but when that one chance encounter with him leads to his insistence on supporting her in her time of need, she knows she’s in no position to refuse. Está convivencia de roomies de pie a una amistad, pero también al enamoramiento y el desarrollo de esa relación es lo que más se disfruta en ésta historia, porque sí es un slow burn. After sooooo many misses from the New Adult /Kindle Unlimited realm of romance, I FINALLY found a winner. She had a passing interest in acting and performed in school plays, but was planning to become a biologist. Zoey was such a strong heroine and I loved her journey of getting on her feet while trying to ignore her feelings for Ryan.
I've never read anything by this author and this is book 2 of a series, but it can definitely be read as a standalone. While Ryan struggles with bonding with his teammates and Zoey is given the opportunity to get back on her feet, a very sweet slow-burn romance blossoms between the two.
It does have a third-act breakup that lasts for a while, but the author uses time jumps and chapter cuts to make passing the time bearable. This was a VERY slow burn story, like almost to the end slow burn but honestly for this couple and their situation it worked. Madeline Dauer and Alex Kydd did a fantastic job of portraying the chemistry between the main character, and the spicy scenes were so hot.The Last of Us Part 2's Laura Bailey, Neil Druckmann, and Naughty Dog Respond to Online Harassment - IGN". A fake marriage story filled with a whole lot of crazy scenarios but with characters I absolutely adored, The Penalty Box was another entertaining story in this series. The FMC felt like a real person who was experiencing real-life things that weren't trivial af but made out to be a huge issue.
That said, I absolutely loved these two both as individuals and as a couple and despite their rocky road to happiness I was invested. I struggle with authors who insist on writing FMC in the gaze of whiteness and it's beauty standards as if there aren't all kinds of gorgeous and feminine and lovely women of all shapes and sizes and colors who are desireable and kick ass. Also, I didn't like like that Odette was leaning into the trope that black clothes and hair (and leather jackets!
