Four Doors Down
About this deal
So I will go with 3 stars: just because heroine gets 1 star, everyhing else is somewhere above 3 star.
I expect my friends would understand I have boundaries and wishes and that I may not want to interact with someone who bullied me, and I expect they respect this. She is strong and harsh and badass at times, but Ryan just says please and looks at her and she loses her autonomy and does anything he wants. Meaning he gets drunk, dates a random girl and uses her, humiliates Becca and picks on her like a child, gets super mad at her for trivial stuff and SCREAMS at her.A number of Ryan's actions make Becca jaded towards him and she believes any friendly gestures from him have an ulterior motive, she is blind to what everyone else sees - his unrequited crush on her. And yeah I am angry because I am 26 and reading this I piss myself laughing, but a young girl reading such bullshit may not be able to understand this is not how it works, that your "virginity" is not an object that you can give away. Nevertheless its a great read for anyone who enjoys YA and I shall be keeping an eye out for the follow on book Four Years Later. Ryan was one of the best book boyfriends I've ever read and this had the potential to be perfect but having the heroine obsessed with someone not the hero for 80% of the book is just infuriating as fuck. Then on top of that she was so dumb and clueless it was a shocker that she was only flunking English and science because everyone knew that Ryan liked her and she couldn't figure it out.
Brittany wants nothing more than a friend for life, but when Janelle and her daughter's lives are upended, the fragility of their relationship is laid bare.I am sorry, I am way past high school times when you could be fascinated by this kind of people because you don't know better. Easy, quick read that was kind of addicting, but I did not like this one as much as the other book I have read by this author.
Which clearly made him upset… Becca was the ONLY one not to understand why Ryan was so cruel to her… but I felt like he could’ve done it differently… but clearly he couldn’t because she literally ignored him and acted like he didn’t exist… which led them both arguing with one another. Hoke's dialogue is smart, funny, nuanced, and tense as she explores the fragility of female friendship.Becca and Ryan have an interesting relationship, they were once best friends but when Ryan shuns her at school it rips apart their friendship. Becca decided years ago that he wasn't worth her time and nothing, NOTHING, is going to change her mind. I really enjoyed the epilogue when we finally got his side of the story and it was perfect and I loved it. Even when I should have felt bad for her, she would let some snide comment fly or be so flippant towards one of her friends thatI couldn't understand why anyone bothers. I literally finished it 5 minutes ago after ignoring my family for the last 4 hours, and I'm still caught up in this sweet high school romance.
The plot was cute and entertaining and I kept routing for them and everytime Becca was with her a**hole boyfriend I wanted to scream at her. I have been in relationships with horrible boys who treated me like garbage, so I can easily say he is one of them. However, in middle school or high school, Ryan got more popular and started making fun of her, or so she thinks. It's my hidey-hole, my refuge, my escape from the droll reality that a never-ending routine sometimes gets you into, it lets me escape for an hour or so into many fantastic worlds and experience things I can only dream of.Becca decided years ago that he wasn't worth her time and nothing, nothing, is going to change her mind. He might have been pissed when she went off to a different college, but they make the long distance work because they're "Becca and Ryan," and nothing is going to break them. This is a great begin in the 2 book series and i think if you like the enemies to lover genre, you'll definitly will love this one! I read pretty much every day I squeeze it in between doing homework, cleaning and sorting the things at home. Becca decided years ago that he wasn’t worth her time and nothing, NOTHING, is going to change her mind.
