About this deal

With his wealth of information and gentle way of laying all options, yet staying firm in his convictions, I recommend this to every expecting mother. My personal experience tells me that no matter how relaxed I am, I'm still going to experience cervical stretching as painful, and that for me, more active pain coping practices will work better. I prefer Birthing From Within's approach to recognizing the painful experience that birthing is and having that be okay.

On the other hand, I f The author, who doesn’t seem to have any scientific grounding, regurgitates personal experience and choice anecdotes as fact. If you are struggling to find your own way as a parent, and feel bombarded with different approaches, this might be a bit of an antidote as it shows how varied (and at times contradictory) different childcare approaches are. It will help you understand some complicated things about giving birth, but it is also so lively and understanding with a lovely way of talking about feelings. Packed with information about rights and choices, it has rapidly become the book most recommended by midwives, doulas and antenatal teachers. On the other hand, they did acknowledge that some women actually do benefit from an epidural when they are too exhausted to progress anymore. This book is a valuable resource for anyone who is soon to give birth, and to birth workers and anyone supporting parents through pregnancy and birth. I was interested in the biochemical/mechanical explanation of why relaxation in labor is important to pain coping.

Includes a beautiful section of birth stories that vary from the all-natural earth mother having the perfect home waterbirth, to the woman who knew she wanted an epidural in the hospital and was even open to a c-section. The cards can be used in a number of ways: by pregnant women who want to work through their birth choices in a more visual and dynamic way; by those who want to explore them with their partner, doula, midwife or other supporters; or by birth professionals as a starting point for activities and discussions with their clients. Good section on breastfeeding but i would have liked more science on antibodies and micro biome that many lay people are less aware of. Combined with 'The Psychology of Babies', this can be really helpful in learning to trust in the relationship between you and your baby.Journalist Rebecca Grant provides us with a never-before-seen look at the changing landscape of pregnancy and childbirth in America—and the rise of midwifery—told through the eyes of three women who all pass through the doors of the same birth center in Portland, Oregon. On the one hand, The Positive Birth Book completely fulfilled its promise as the new birthing bible.
