About this deal

They are a great price for the quality of the product, and the perfect accompaniment to combat our new working world. The microphone quality is also excellent. There are actually three separate microphones built into the boom arm, to ensure your voice is heard clearly. There's none of the harsh, electronic-sounding tone that many corded headsets create. Instead, the user's voice comes across naturally, as if you were having a face-to-face conversation. For a little extra tweaking and personalisation there is the Jabra Direct desktop app allowing you to configure the headset to customise for your needs. It will also keep your headset up to date with any of the latest firmware. Wired – I swap between two PC’s all day long. I just prefer being able to pull a USB cable out of one, and pop it in the other. Also, most of the Dalek-esque sounding people I hear on calls are using Bluetooth headsets

The Evolve2 40 is also UC (Unified Communications) compliant, so it works with all your collaborating platforms including GoToMeeting, Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams, Cisco WebEx, Zoom, Google Hangouts and many more. The Jabra Evolve2 30 and Evolve 40 are compatible with all major UC platforms. Compatibility won’t ever be an issue with either Evolve2 30 (left) or Evolve 40 (right). Wait, what? I don’t have those sidetone settings…ah, yes I do, but I missed them. Anyway, the sidetone level was pre-set too high, I tried a few settings and was torn between off and the minimum…I went for the minimum setting in the end and the problem is solved. Excellent service from Jabra. Comfort A dedicated Microsoft Teams button (press the Teams button to action the thing it is telling you about) to: They are an on the ear headset with rotating ear cups, an extremely soft flexible headband, making putting them on or taking them off fast, smooth and hassle free.

Set-up

Along with the physical facelift, the Jabra Evolve2 30 also received upgrades on its digital chipset and speaker drivers. Both have noise-isolating designs that will minimize the ambient noise you’ll hear from your surroundings, further improving their overall sound quality. You’ll immediately notice an improvement in audio clarity once you put either Evolve headset on. Opening the meeting “pre-join” screen (is there a meeting you should be joining? Just press the Teams button on the side and the pre-join screen pops up…brilliant feature!) I found the Jabra Evolve2 40 fairly straight forward to install as it is pretty much plug and play, though I had to set it as the default listening device in a few of my apps.

The Jabra Evolve2 30 has better mic and sound quality than the Evolve 40. The curvatures of the Jabra Evolve2 30 (left) and Evolve 40 (right) is easier to differentiate here. Preferably Jabra – I have used then before and loved them, unless they give me reason to do so, I don’t plan to look elsewhere As with most corded headsets, the Jabra Evolve2 40 is incredibly easy to set up. Just plug it in to your device, and it will automatically set itself up so you can use it straight away. Both UC and MS variants work with all major softphone applications, while the MS version is optimized for use with Microsoft Teams. It also comes with a dedicated Teams button- making it perfect for hopping in and out of meetings throughout the day. The Jabra Evolve2 30 has a more modern look than the Evolve 40. The Jabra Evolve2 30 (left) sports better fitting curves compared to the Evolve 40 (right). Both Jabra Evolve2 30 and Evolve 40 have separate versions optimized for Microsoft Teams and Unified Communication, and you can further choose between USB-A and USB-C connectivity. The Evolve2 30 has a slight advantage with future-proofing since it can be updated with Jabra Direct, the company’s companion software for its new devices. This ensures you get the latest firmware along with bug fixes. Verdict

Finally, the Evolve2 40 comes with a a busy light on the side of the headset. This automatically switches on when you are on a call. However, it can also be turned on manually at any time, so even if you're not on a call, colleagues will know you don't want to be disturbed. But it's not just the microphone that's noise cancelling. The ear cups of the Jabra Evolve2 40 have been redesigned to take advantage of the very latest technology. Memory foam pads shape themselves to your ears for the most comfortable fit. Not only does that help it to stay comfortable, but it also means that the stereo version isolates virtually all noise from around the user. That's great news if you work in a call centre! Jabra Evolve2 40: The Verdict

The look caught the eye of all the members in my family, as I often found them missing from my desk constantly. Either being used by my teenagers for their Fortnite sessions, or my partner “borrowing” them for her daily Team Meetings. We found the build quality to be a bit more robust than the original Evolve 40. That's not to say that the older one was flimsy, but the Evolve2 just feels like it has a bit more substance to it. The ear cups are made from memory foam for a snugger fit. While this might sound like it could get uncomfortable after a while, we found it was actually an improvement on other corded headsets we've used in the past. One feature we like about the Evolve2 40 is the mute function. Like many other headsets, it has a dedicated mute button. But you can also mute your microphone by simply lifting the boom arm. In practise, we found this works very well. It's a lot easier to do than pressing a button, and you can be sure that you've actually muted your headset- so no embarrassing moments when you're actually still on the call! There is something quietly competent about these headphones. Apart from the surprisingly useful Teams integration features, I don’t find myself inclined to shout about any part of them…they just do what they are meant to do very well.
